Xochiquetzal

Xochiquetzal is the Aztec goddess of love and beauty. She is also goddess of

earth, flowers, plants, games and dance. She is often surrounded by flowers

and butterflies, and accompanied by a hummingbird or an ocelot.

Xochiquetzal, the Aztec goddess of love and beauty wears a bird headdress, based on the quetzal, a bird known for its long, turquoise tail. The headdress is covered with bright quetzal feathers. In fact, her name contains the

name of the quetzal.

The Aztec goddess of love and beauty wears a blue tunic adorned with woven flowers made from delicate feather work. She holds two of her symbols, marigolds and a butterfly.

In the Aztec calendar, a god or Goddess protects each of the 20 days.

Xochiquetzal's day is Xochitl. According to Aztec belief, it is a day for creating

beauty and truth. Xochitl reminds us that life, like the flower, is beautiful but
